You are going to love this! Received a phone call from the neighbor today and they wanted to talk to hb. Our beloved dog has been going in their yard in the morning by their driveway and pooping.
Find out she has been doing this for some time and all of a sudden it becomes a problem. I know it's not right and they also said that they don't have a problem with her being out by the horse barn and if she gets hurt it's our problem. You live in the country you have horses but you are worried about dog poo when you have a dog and horses???? You should try having a cat, a dog, 51 laying hens and in the spring and summer having 25 to50 pullets to replenish your laying hens,3 to 4 pigs and not to mention 50 to 75 meat chickens and 5 to 10 turkeys. Then you can say you have a poo problem!!!!!

Which by the way they are probably buying the brown eggs that we are selling!

Well, never know what finally ticked them off. Poo could have been the last straw for numerous things if your dog runs free. I say best keep your dog in as many don't tolerate free roamers.

I can understand it.

A large golden retriever would come over to my elm tree and 'deposit' there in the morning . I wasn't sure who the offending dog was, but finally realized the answer.
I walked across the street with backyard tomatoes to give our neighbors, politely told the man I was sure he didn't realize what was happening, but that his dog leaving something behind several times a week.
He apologized, said his son let the dog out every morning for a few minutes while he retrieved their paper and that it wouldn't happen again.
And it didn't.

As neighbors we often hope a problem will go away, because we don't want to offend anyone. ~ People are offended waaayyy too easily! ~ Anyway, now that you know the problem, you can stop the dog and you'll continue to all be friends,

I'm sure it seemed trivial (and in the big scheme of life it truly is trivial) but as you very forthrightly acknowledged, dog poo should not be deposited in other people's yards. I love animals - have rescued many a dog - but I've been finding piles of dog poo in my yard (I don't have a dog) and I am not happy about it. I have a gazillion things to do every day and I did not sign up for scooping dog poop. The last straw was when I recently slipped in a wet pile of it I did not spot quickly enough (this was not not NOT pretty!). (maybe similar happened to them?!)
Now I've resorted to posting a "NO DOGS" sign. I didn't want to do it (not even sure it will help if the people are nowhere around when their dogs are roaming) but on average people really need to be more responsible. Mostly, I am just very worried about my chickens with dogs obviously leaving their calling card. Even if I had 50 bazillion critters in my care, along all their poop, it doesn't mean it would be okay for me to impose any of it on others without their okay. I signed up, they didn't.
Hope it'll all work out and that you and your neighbor will be okay. For your sake, I hope at least that they are good neighbors because then it'll be worth sorting out. Take care and good luck with your many furries and feathereds.

Nothing personal here, but you need to not get upset at all by your neigbors. As long as they had a 'polite' conversation with you, they are totally in the right here. Your dog should not be over on their land, period, unless they have expressly invited it to be.

I've had animals forever, including dogs, cats, etc. They poop at will all over MY yard, and I don't care - they are MY animals. However, I absolutely do NOT want OTHER people's animals poo'ing in my yard. Whether or not I have animals, or whether or not I pooper scooop after my own has nothing to do with it. As a homeowner, I have a right to live in my own house without anyone's animals pooping (or even running loose) in my yard. Would I call my neighbors and complain about the occasional deposit? No. BUT if it was a habit, I would nicely ask them to keep their dog at home to do his business, absolutely, and hope they were considerate enough to feel embarassed that I had to ask and to make sure it didn't happen again as a usual thing.

That is one reason I make sure my dogs stay in my yard (fence) and I keep my chickens also up so they don't stray off my property. That's the golden rule - to 'do unto others...'

In my opinion, you have no reason at all to get upset or frustrated with your neighbors for asking you keep your dog to poop on your own land. They have probably been putting up with it for a long time because they were too nice to say anything about it and didn't want to make you mad, honestly. For whatever reason it's gotten to a point where they thought they needed to ask you nicely to keep your dog poop in your own yard.

To put it bluntly, get a fence and keep your dog in it. Despite what people may or may not say, NOBODY likes someone elses animals running around in their yard. If you can afford an animal, you should be able to afford a good fence.

Good fences DO really make good neighbors.

I live in the country. I have a pretty niced sized piece of land. Nothing bites my butt more than other people's animals wandering into my yard or my field.

The cats that roam always come up at dark and eat whatever might be left of our cat's food.

Dogs wander up and scare the bejeezus out of our kids. My kids have a great fear of dogs they don't know based on something that happened many years ago with a neighbor dog.

My fields have good fences. My backyard has a good fence. I keep my dogs at home 24/7. A stray dog or a pack of dogs could kill my guineas and chickens. My goats could be hurt if not killed. I make an effort to keep my animals contained and feel other people should do the same.

It is my job to feed and house my dogs. It is also my job to train my dogs not to prey on my livestock. It is also my job to shoot another animal that wanders up and causes a ruckus in my yard/barnyards. I scoop enough of my own animal poop not to have to scoop someone else's animals poop.

Don't be angry with your neighbor. Put the shoe on the other foot and step in the dog poop for yourself. Not fun. Then you would be ticked off with his dog in your yard.

I don't see how anyone could let their 'beloved' dog roam, not knowing what it was up to or possibly getting into. We live on 292,000 acres, but ours still stay in the yard unless they are out with us. I'd have thought for your own peace of mind as well as the neighbors' you'd want to know where your dog was.

The answer to the problem is simple, keep your dog confined to your yard.

Here if a dog strays onto someone elses land it usually disappears, no phone call, no conversation, no warning... just gone.

Your neighbor is being more friendly that they have to be, I wouldn't be upset with them.
