I was reading a thread the other day which someone posted about their duckling having diarrhoea and it spurred me to ask my first ever question from my fellow duck lovers. I've got 2 ducks, a pekin and a khaki Campbell. Their poo is generally quite runny and this isn't something out of the ordinary for them but I thought I'd just check that there's nothing more I need to be doing. They're as happy and healthy and active as they always have been, no changes in character or personality. They drink loads of water so I put this down as one of the main reasons for their... Let go? That's a nicer word than poo. They free range in the garden every day so have access to all plants and insects. I feed them layers pellets which I mix poultry spice in to which is a powder that gives them extra vitamins. I also feed them kitchen scraps such as salad and veg. Like I say, this has always been a normal thing for my 2 but just wanted to get a general consensus on it as I'd hate to miss anything!

My ducks have pretty watery poop. They digest food quickly so their diet has a bigger affect on their poo than it would on say a dog or even us. As long as it's not like, a puddle of poop I'd say that's pretty normal to have watery poop.

You can tell when a duck has diarrehea more by the smell than the look of it.

Smells horrible.

But seriously, Heri's right. Duck poop will vary throughout the day, from watery to solid, green to brown, depending on what they ate and when. Unless it's bright neon green like ecto cooler, they get the horrible, horrible burnt tire sour smell of diarrhea ALL the time, or they have other symptoms like lethargy or loss of interest in food, then all poops are good poops when it comes to duckie bowels.

Thanks guys, it's not something I've ever worried about but thought I'd check! I know when they've been going through my flowers by the colour of poo all over the garden!! know exactly what you mean by the smell - there's nothing like it!!!!!
