Poodles

most of the people I know keep their poodles in a "puppy" cut. But even the show cut isn't so ugly once you learn the reasoning behind it. Poodles were water retrievers and the hunters didn't want the dog being weighed down with a waterlogged coat so they shaved the dog to the skin. However, they left fur around the chest and the joints to protect from the freezing water.

I know thats the reasoning, but it doesn't seem very effective. Wouldn't having wet, soggy hair around the joints keep them colder? My poodle's hair isn't very water resistant, once it comes in contact with water, the hair absorbs it. It takes a while for her hair to dry too.
