I have a 7 day old bantam that keeps getting pooh stuck to butt. I read some where on here to give fresh grass and soil. So I did. They 11 chicks had a blast with it. Is this the best and only way to help with this problem? What causes this? I am worried I will do something wrong, we lost one last night with wry neck.

I would use warm water and clean the poo off her backside sounds like pasty butt. What are you feeding them? I have mine on medicated chick starter and fresh water.

We are feeding them Dumor chick starter/growth 20% feed. We also placed vitamins in water last night. Is the soil a good idea? or can this expose them to more harm than good. I did it once but want to make sure I don't over do it. Thank you for the help. We are new new to this chicken raising stuff. We have always loved birds and if all goes well we will continue to add to our flock....

I let my 2 week old chicks on the ground for a while yesterday just make sure if they are eating anything other the chick starter they have grit, you can get this at your local farm store.

Wonderful....I will pick some grit up today. What does grit do? You are so helpful....

thank you

They need grit to digest the food since they can not chew their food, they use the grit to cut the food up inside their crop. Hope this helps.
