End of season, so walmarts around are out of pools. Have a few left to try calling.
We have a small one that the ducks are using, but it is the dog's outside walk through water dish for the summer/fall and they'd like it back

Getting ready to build a fence/house for the ducks and want to get them a larger pool.
Walmart had 3 sizes. The small one I have, a medium one and the large one with a slide.
Does anybody have the medium or large one and can give dimensions - how deep and a diameter?
Trying to get an idea of how many gallons as I found a preformed pond on craigslist that is about 2' deep, but he didn't give a width/length size, but said about 100 gallons - need to decide if I tell him I want it or find a walmart with a pool left in stock.

but how big are the medium and large ones?
How deep and how wide?

This is the preformed pond I can get (which I could just use in the front yard as a pond if it doesn't work for the ducks... hmmm....)

Just trying to figure out what will give the best space for them. Already bought the stuff to make a drain for whatever we get.

I have the same size pools as Katharinad. And my ducks use the slides on the big ones too. LOL Sorry I dont know the exact size... but I can assure you the ones with the slides are plenty deep ( their feet can"t touch bottom) and I've seen 9 or 10 ducks get in at once and all float around and breed and nap etc. The one that is one size down from that is plenty big for them to swim, but their feet can touch the bottom if they want to. Don't know how much help I've been....

Medium is 5 feet in diameter and 12" deep.
The large is 6 feet in diameter and 16" deep.
I did mount drainage valves on the side, because it will get dirty rather fast. I empty out the 3 pools every 2 days with 9 ducks.

Oh yeah Katharinad. They're some work aren't they? I empty 4 pools out EVERY day with 21 ducks. And I don't have drains in mine. The big ones with the slide have the plug in the bottom so I just make snakeman stick his arm in the nasty water and pull the plug and let it drain.

I have to get a drain system going eventually so it's easier to use the water to water my gardens. Right now I just dip a pail and carry.

Man that is gross. My plug was in a bad position. You pulled it and the soil/grass below it prevented it from draining. Plus the tap is so tiny you need some pliers to pull the plug. What a mess. Using the pail stinks too. Here is your shopping list for the hardware store:

3/4" x 1" PVC Male Adapter @ $0.77

3/4" Threated PVC Ball Valve @ $3.17

Two #11 O-Rings (3/4") @ 1.97 for 10 pieces

All pieces are available at Home Depot or other hardware stores. Make sure to cut your hole as tight as possible wit a utility knife. Put the Male Adapter with an o-ring inside of the pool, add another o-ring outside and screw on the ball valve. No glue needed. Really simple.

You can also buy a hose adapter, which you can screw into the outer part of the ball valve. This enables you to connect a garden hose to it, so you can have the dirty water discharge anywhere in the garden.

3/4 In. x 3/4 In. MPT x MHT (Male Hose Thread) PVC Hose Thread Adapter @ $0.99

The prices given are from Home Depot. They do not include sales taxes. Take this list with you to the hardware store and have someone help you. Make sure they all screw together before you leave.

Remember to fill up your pool once and then mark the location. The pools have the tendency to pull down a little bit. Do not put it in first and then fill the pool only to find out that you are too low and the valve gets pushed up.

Thanks Katharinad!! Awesome!! I'll let ya know when I get it done and how it goes.

And yep.. He sticks his arm right in the nasty water. I think it's gross too. Thank goodness for bleach and anti bacterial soap.

I'm going right to now to nag him about my new drain valves

Mystic Mom, I love your duck pond but I'm surprised they can climb the platform out. I would think their feet would slip trying to climb the wet plastic slide. Connie
