Poop around butt

Thanks for this post, I have a poopy butt gal that needs some attention. As a new chicken mama, I'm wonder how I can clean this in the winter in Montana?!?!? I may try a little squirt bottle and wipes too, after I trim off chunks. Time to band my golden comet ladies so I can keep track of who is whom!

Actually if you're going to trim, once you're done just use your fingers to break up any remaining small chunks left on feathers, and they should crumble off.
...or trim all and any chunks off until all the 'poop catchers' have been trimmed off.
Viola, no more clingons!

Sometimes I get some little chunks that are hanging on to the base of a feather, so easier to crumble it off rather than trying to trim that close.

Voila,

Thank you. I got most off with a bit of trimming and a warm spray bottle with towels to dry and absorb poo. Her butt is pretty naked since the feathers aren't fluffed, and it is going to be chilly tonight. 14 degrees. The coop is well insulated and well vented up high so not drafty. But she does sleep by a window. She is golden comet, a hardy hybrid, 6.5 mos old. Should I bring her in the garage for the night? I would prefer not to, if possible.

She'll be fine, a little bit of feather trimming still leaves them with plenty to stay warm.

Same here. Dry poop is gross, but wet poop is disgusting!
The first time I had a bird with poopy butt feathers, I bathed her :sick
Never again!

Another reason not to use liquid.
You can always use a hair dryer, many do and say the birds love it.
