Poop board and roost floor

Hubby got my poop board finished today! Question for the experts...the roost floor is plywood only. I’ve been using pine shavings and cleaning regularly. What is suggested bedding with a raised roost floor? Do I need to put down something moisture proof 1st? We live in north central Texas. Thanks in advance!

Depends on how you want to do it.

@Ridgerunner uses bare wood, no bedding and scrapes them off 'as needed'(I think).

I'm at the other end of the spectrum, my poop boards are lined with vinyl, which is covered with a ~1/8" layer of PDZ, and completely sifted daily.

I'm not totally sure what you mean by raised roost floor, you separate roost floor and poop board in your thread title as if they are separate things..

The top of my brooder is a flat piece of plywood. As you can see I use bins where it doesn't reach. I scrape it as needed, using a garden hoe with a broken handle. I'd break my window or do other damage if I tried using a hoe with a long handle. Scraping as needed translates to when it gets thick enough that it stays moist. As long as it dries out it will not stink. If it stays damp my nose tells me I waited too long.

If the weather is humid and I have a lot of chickens roosting up there I might scrape it once a week. With just a few birds and with the weather dry that might be every six weeks. I seldom go six weeks. The main reason I took this photo was to show I don't scrape it every day.

The top is bare plywood. As long as the poop is not left damp it will not rot the wood. It does stain, some people don't like that. And the poop will stick. You need something heavy and strong like a garden hoe to break it loose. I actually use a squeegee for the final scraping, the garden hoe is just to break it loose. I wind up with pure poop, not mixed with any bedding. That goes to my compost pile.

My coop floor is dirt. I use wood shavings on that.

I don't have a recommended bedding. I don't know enough about your coop, your management techniques, your personal preferences, how you dispose of or use the poop and bedding, or your tolerances for it not being spotless. We all have to find our own way.
