Discouraging hanging out on poop board?

My newest batch of pullets seem to enjoy hanging out on the poop board during the day.

They trample the nice neat piles of easily scoopable poop piles into little shreds that require me to sift the entire amount of PDZ on the board to clean it.

Plus it can’t be good for their feet, and they lay in it. And eat it. Ew

My four older hens never did this and still don’t. If they come in the coop during the day, they just hang out on the floor in the shavings.

Are chickens just gonna be chickens (and gross) or I wonder if there’s something I can put on the board to keep them from thinking it’s their playground?

It is a 'safe' place for them to hang out.
I just keep a thin layer of sand(actually PDZ) on the boards and completely sift it all every morning.

Mine did it too until I mounted the poop boards at a 30* angle (front lower than the rear) to discourage that kind of roosting behavior. Some of the poop rolls off, but it falls into the ground in a very neat line, easy to scoop up.
