I am planing my coop (been doing research since October), Thanks for all the great lessons I have learned on BYC. One concept that I just can't see in my mind is how the poop board, Poop pit? are laid out in the coop.

Would you mind posting pictures of the interior of your coop and how you set up the roosts, etc?

Thank you,
Mary:)

Here is how I did my dropping board. It's even easier if your roosts stretch from wall to wall. Some have single roosts, other's multiple. Good luck!

Instead of a board, I use a boot tray:

I pull it out, dump the contents into the compost bin, and give it a quick hose off every morning. Works great.

Mine is almost identical to Teach1rusl's. It looks like they used melanine as the poop board...it would probably be a snap to scrap! I used leftover OSB/wafer board that we then painted w/glossy paint. It works well, but almost a year after starting to use it, some flakes have come up when scraping. It will probably last another year or so with a new coat of paint this summer, then I'll just replace it if it gets to "grodie"

I don't cover the droppings/poop board with shavings as they would have to be replace w/each cleaning...hopefully that is every other day or so. (Thirteen birds make a lot of poo!) My roosts are easily removable by placing them in notches in the boards on the side walls so I can reach all parts of the board. I'd like to try the plastic idea...but I'm afraid my girls would peck or scratch the ends up. Hmmm, maybe some type of boarder to keep the ends hidden...

No pics but a simple plan. Set roost 12" from wall and make poop board 24" wide, equal or longer length than roost. Use 1/2" osb and glue linoleum on it. Scrape daily

to make litter last all year long with only occasional topping. Make it removable for yearly cleaning.

Mine sits at 24" ht and roost is at 48" ht. No walkway needed as they just hop up and down.
