Thank you all for your help! I am really loving the cafeteria trays and the appliance trays...but whatever I do, I will definitely be using poop boards! Thank you!!

I think I spied a stack of cafeteria trays at the local Goodwill...back tomorrow for a quick scout/puchase. Should be the perfect size for my hen-house.

Thanks for the tip!

Poop Board certainly makes it easier. Any other way really does not make sense bc your still scooping off something. I made the board even deeper to about 24" X 30”. Lift it out with 1 hand, knock on the trash bin and put it back in without making it a chore bending down for me in my brooder. My next Coop will be a standing one that requires no bending. Preferably one I can just hose out with water.

In some of the old coop designs, the nest boxes were under the roosts to conserve space. Poop boards were a necessity to keep the eggs as clean as possible I think.
Both poop boards and sand have the purpose of drying the poop out so it is less smelly. Dry poop is easier to handle.

Here's how we deal with the "night poops". The roost is above boot trays (available at the container store) which I swap out each morning with a clean set. Even when it's snowing...this is a fast, easy way to keep the interior of the coop clean.

This is an awesome idea, I never thought about a poop board I scrap my coop out daily with a garden hoe right into a bucket. But this is such a better idea. I will be getting an upright large coop in the future as for now we adapted an plan we seen on backyard chickens.

I also thought of oil drip pans they would make good poop boards. We use them in our fire department for our trucks and they are big and flat and washable.

My hens just started laying and we are working on our coop design for better access.
