poop boards - whats the best and cleanest way to make and keep up with

My poop board is covered in vynil. I found a real cool ice scraper: it has a long handle, is an ice scraper on one side and it has a brush on the other side.
I use it to drag all the nights poop into a bucket, scrape without scratching the vynil, and, when needed, use the brush. Then I spread a handful of pine shavings all over, barely enough to cover the whole poop board... Easy and fast!

I drilled two five inch holes in my poop boards and have 5 gallon pails under each hole. I spread pine shaving on the boards then about once every three weeks I rake it into the 5 gal pails and dump them out.

I just have painted plywood under mine. The paint didn't last all that long LOL but I still just scrape it off every couple days into a bucket with an old trowel. Then it goes into the compost bin for my garden. Chicken poo is great stuff!

I have shavings on the floor of my coop.I don't use a poop board. When Needed I take a broom or small rake and move the poop and shavings around mixing them up.This helps with some heat,Takes away the odor, and makes my compost for my gardens.I clean 2 times a year and this seems to work. That's what the shavings are for.

To henny penny, do u ever have problems with the chickens trying to dust bathe in the sand? I really like the litter box idea with the scoopimg every am. Everyone has such great ideas, its hard to pick just one!

"chickens trying to dust bathe in the sand?"

I never thought of that, but it makes that they would try.

Maybe shavings would work better? I used shavings at first and the poo just wadded up. It was easy to scoop 'em out.
