poop boards

Sweet PDZ. It’s like cat litter but way better. Absorbs order, dries out all the poo, and is good for the garden. I fill the boards about 1-2 inches deep. Then scoop out the poo with a cat litter box scoop. I don’t change the PDZ I just add too it when it gets low which is not often at all. So inexpensive and super convenient IMO.

I use pdz the same way. I scoop the droppings daily & put the droppings in a litter genie. When the litter genie is full, we put the droppings in the compost bin. I bought some spent coffee grounds recently & I'm gonna add some to my pdz & see if I like it or not.

What will the spent coffee grounds do? Caffeinate the chickens to lay more? :p

We’ve been using the PDZ in the tray and I love it! This country-wide cold snap has given us temps hovering at zero on my hill. Sometimes their looser poo hits a low spot in the PDZ and freezes to the bottom, but it chips right off with a scraper. The low spots happen now and then cause the birds are stuck in their pen a lot with the high winds.
In the parts of coop not under the roosting bars, I have hemp and love that too but now I’m mixing the hemp with the PDZ in those areas. I’m really happy how well the poo board and PDZ are working out. I too collect it in a pail and when the pail is full I dump it on a compost pile.

I use granulated DE in my poop tray and I get it from my local auto parts store. It is called Optisorb from ep minerals. Not the cheapest but works great and good for compost pile. It has a very high cation exchange rate and the plants love it.

I have poop "trays" that are easy to pop out and scrape/rinse off. Therefore, I use absolutely nothing on my poop trays. The way they are positioned doesn't allow my chickens to come in contact with them.

Makes sense and uses less consumables. I feel like the litter helps keep the humidity levels down which is the main reason I use it. I never tested with and without though...
