So what do you do with it after you pick, scrape or shovel it? I'm cleaning up massive amounts of poop (10 hens) every day and the flies are horrific! DE and Sweet PDZ all around, but it's still pretty stinky. I shovel into my big muck bucket and when it's time, I dump it next to the garden to ripen and use for fertilizer. Could I be doing something differently to cut down on the smell and flies?

Add sawdust or brown leaves, that will speed up the composting process and cut down on the smell. Should help with the flies too.

You'll have to have a compost pile. Layering is always smart. Whatever nature provides. If it is leaf season, then leaves, if grass clippings, then on they go. A year of general living and taking care of lawns, flowers, gardens, leaves all works together with keeping chickens to make lovely compost.

Layer it up to compost and then if it's still more than you can use, SELL IT! People will pay money for your chicken poop if you make it garden-ready for them.
