Poop management

Yeah! This was exactly what I was planning on doing. Ah the difference between wanting to do something and actually getting off your butt and digging a big hole. I also have to worry about where the power lines are.

A weekly raking of the chicken run would probably be good. I can easily get poop off the bare ground, but they also graze on the grassy side of the yard, and getting poop out of there is a lot harder.

Last week I envisioned tearing out all the grass and laying down bark dust throughout the yard and then planting grass in raised planters for the chickens to eat. But that would be expensive and it would negate all the labor my husband did laying down the sod for me in the first place.

Yeah that would definitely help, just make sure it is something the chickens can eat, as I would expect them to try to eat the bark dust. That gave me a good idea to do raised beds of grass for my girls, thanks!!

My dogs make tiny little poops, but when I'm in the backyard, I'll put the hose end nozzle on "jet" and pulverize them into the ground. Instant fertilizer and let the earthworms do the work. My chickens don't go in my backyard, they free range for part of the day and also have a good sized run which I rake out once or twice a week. I feed them alfalfa so I rake those leftovers out too and it all goes to compost.

Get a kid to pick it up for you and pay to have it done or do what we do , pick it up every day. We never let a turd of any house animal lay over night. The chicken poop we also pick up in the yard, but every few days and do the chicken run once a week. we have 5 chickens so there is a bit in the yard, but my kids take a small waist basket, put a plastic bag in it and walk the yard with small spades. They get a good alowence and it's just one of there jobs. There is never a smell in my yard, pen or coop. That would just freak me out. There are people who will do youroop for you for a price, also.

Well, I got my trash bag, and big cat litter bucket (probably about 3 gal) and got after it. Filled up the bucket. I have a 2 piece pooper scooper. Its a big flat pan type thing with a handle and a rake to match. you can rake up probably 1/2 gal or more on the pan before you have to empty it. Took me about 20 min. I tied a wet bandana around my neck to keep from getting too burned. Ive been out working in the yard off and on all day and gave up coz its way too hot. But Im glad to get the yard scooped and Im gonna try to do it every few days. I have 2 big dogs that poop in the big yard. They are my 'markers' to keep varmits out of my yard. Works great!

pam in TX drinking ICE WATER right now

The thing about free rangin' my babies, is that it doesn't take long to break a walking around barefoot problem.....just sayin'

When I was a kid I had a best friend who had the smallest yard. she was 1 out of 6 kids and no body scooped there giant dogs poop. I remember us having to tip toe through it to get from point a to point b and I was so totally grossed out ! The smell OMG it was terrible! I can not imagine how anyone could live with such a gross mess ! I vowed I would never never have such a mess, and I never have. If I get old and need help I will hire someone to do the job for me, it's just to gross to even think about the smell or mess of dog or cat rap mixed with chicken crap. By the wY I have three little dogs as i find the poop is smaller lol
