Poop plug (yuck)

Thanks for the replies. I have tried to pick it but it bled so I've left it alone since them. I suspect it's vent gleet. While looking that up I found this link with some good info;

I think I will get some canesten and start using that in place of the polysporin. Probably should ease up on the oil/water enemas. I'm thinking the oil might not help with yeast. I will keep giving him a little shot of warm water to keep things soft up there unless anyone thinks I shouldn't. I will also get some plain yogurt and probiotic capsules. I do give everyone all natural flavoured yogurt from time to time but I will increase the frequency.

Thanks again for the advice. I'm going to bath him again at bedtime and I will take more gross pictures just so any progress is documented.

It seems like if that was indeed a poop plug it should have come out with all you've tried. Is it possible that is indeed NOT poop at all but a growth of some kind? You mentioned it bled when you tried picking it out of there.

My hen bleed quite a bit after I removed her plug. Not saying it's not a growth... just looks verh much like what my hen had.

It really seems like it is a scab mixed or adhered to poop and possibly callused or scarred tissue. It's getting dark outside now so he should be back in the coop. I'll flip the lights out for a bit so he falls asleep. Then I'll go get him and give it another go.

And the link that sd bird lady posted looks exactly like the same thing my rooster has. I have messaged the op of that thread asking how things turned out. Hope I hear back soon.

Better go tuck everyone into bed. I'll post more lovely pictures for everyone's viewing pleasure (not!)

Thanks again.

(Edited to correct spelling. I'm posting from my phone. auto correct and my fat fingers make spelling an adventure)

My hen had that, too. Now her vent is smaller and it's harder for her to lay eggs.

I just pulled it off, then cleaned it with betadine, gave her a betadine flush, put some Monistat cream in and gave her Nystatin orally. I feel bad because I haven't been giving her the meds due to caring for more urgent matters, so I need to pick up where I left off. I'll try to get you some updated photos.

Here is the thread that I started:

I think the soaking is helping! Part of the poop/callus ring thing came off! Yay!
It looks a wee bit better or at least smaller...

Thanks for replying casportpony.

Not sure what betadine is but I will get some monistat or canesten tomorrow. I think the polysporin is helping the tissue heal and the callus stay soft between soaks. Nystatin is prescription?
