Poop stuck to 1 week old chicks- What do I do???

Ill vouch for the ACV. it does work wonders. Our first batch of chicks, had this problem all the time. I tried the ACV the second batch, after they started showing signs of it & POOF, pasty butt went away.

ACV is very helpful. For those who are wondering, ACV is Apple Cider Vinegar. Make sure it is RAW with the MOTHER. Bragg's is a good brand, but others are available.

I'm probably going to get some blowback from this... but when my chicks get poo stuck in their butt feathers, I just pick it off - feathers and all. If the fluff is gone there isn't anything for the poo to stick to. I still check each hiney daily, but I've never had one to have the problem more than once.

Can it be any brand of acv? I believe I have store brand and our lonely chick is showing signs of sticky poo. He/she is an incubator baby. Can I use a baby wipe? Thanks

I'm so glad to have found this thread. We just picked out our first batch of chicks ever and 3 had at least a mild case of pasty butt. We had no idea this could actually be fetal. As one person suggested, I sat each effected chick in warm water for a bit and then slow wiped it off. One of them actually started to fall asleep while sitting in the warm water. ;-) Thank you BYC!

One of my chicks is experiencing the paste butt and I'm cleaning it daily BUT it is just a bit smaller then the rest of the chicks from the same clutch. Anyone else notice this with their paste butt babies or might I be dealing with a runt lol

Omg. I was cleaning one of my babies of what I thought was pasty butt. But reading this now ,
could it have been the embelical cord. ? I was carful. But it started to bleed :(. It seems ok but I'm worried I will lose my baby. What should l do

After having only one chick hatch out of a total 18 eggs that I started with in my first attempt ever at incubating, a black sex link, we were lucky enough to find Tractor Supply having some of the same breed in stock, so we picked up half a dozen. Our chick seems healthier and with a better temperament, more docile, than the ones we bought. Two of the purchased ones also got pasy butt, so I was thankful for this thread. I was able to just wipe one chick off, but the other required a dip in warm water, which she seemed to enjoy.
