My chicken is quite well appearing. Eating well. Does not have any symptoms. Just the poop today had some red on it. If I were to describe the appearance it would be about half a teaspoon of peanut butter with a sad amount of jelly. I pray this is not coccidiosis. Lord no.

Please if someone can identify this or help me that would be great.

Ps. The third picture is not like the others. I left it as a bonus. If you can help give me a differential diagnosis that would be helpful. Thanks friends.

Thank you.

Pictures included.

How old is the chicken that did this?
It does look like blood to me. Could be Coccidiosis, possibly worms. Have you looked at vents to see if there's any bleeding from being pecked?

The 3rd poop is cecal poop with bubbles. How old it that chicken?

Have you ever dewormed your flock?

Thanks. Her vent looks normal. She has great energy and appetite. Her poop actual looked beautiful this morning. That made me happy. Not sure though. I have never dewormed her. She is about 6-7 months old. My other chicken is fine as can be. She has been dewormed once with Ivermectin Gold ( the horse med) . It worked well for her.

I used it to treat tape worm and I believe that is all that med treats.

I order Corid to be on the safe side and thought of placing it in the water for both of them. Then I also bought sage gaurd… I thought I read that it is sort of broad spectrum dewormed except it doesn’t work for tape worm. Should I give the corid first just in case? Cause I know the Coccidiosis is deadly… then afterwards I can just deworm her and my other one. I guess I should give my other girl the corid too..

What do you think?

I got the safe gaurd liquid for goats

And the corid for cows

For me the most complicated part is dosing and frequency.. and how to give it. I gave my horse dw wormer in a syringe and squirted it in the mouth of my other chicken. The consistency is thick so I was less worried about aspiration.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks for answering me. I’m sure everyone is sick and tired of my poop questions.

How do I dose safe gaurd and corid?

You can treat for Coccidiosis and for worms at the same time if you wish.

Corid Liquid Dose is 2 tsp or Corid Powder Dose is 1 1/2 tsp per gallon of water given for 5-7 days as the only source of drinking water.

Safeguard Liquid Goat wormer dose is 0.23ml per pound of weight given orally once a day for 5 days in a row. No repeat.

This article will help show you how to administer medication. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...dications-to-all-poultry-and-waterfowl.73335/

Thank you! Ok I did both. Thanks for the link! I am going to look now. I figured it is better to be safe than sorry for coccidiosis. So I started toe corid. I am to change it everyday correct? I mix the amount place a dose in two water feeders. Each day I empty the water and start again with a fresh dosage correct? I also gave the zimectrim gold this am… turns out that one of my chickens has tape worms. So annoying! It’s this darn chicken.. I treated my other chicken several months ago for tape worm and she was fine. But since this other bird has it I figured I might as well treat her too…. I really need to figure out what on earth is going on. I guess it’s normal for chickens to get worms and what not. To be honest my other chicken is doing amazing.., it’s the new chicken that had the blood and the tap worms… so even though I treated my existing chicken several months ago I treated her again this am cause of my new darn chicken….

I am so good at cleaning my coop and run… I pick up the poop every day. I don’t leave treats or food on the ground. I clean the water daily. Top off the food daily. Etc…. No matter what I do there are always a few flies the minute the chickens poop. I did use a fly trap but it smells disgusting… I hate it… I found one online that you put your own bait and the bait to use is chicken poop… so I might try that… but I wonder if the hay, rain and moisture causes all these damn worms….

I live in south Florida… so the weather is normally not, warm, humid, rainy and a little bipolar. I have thought about sand… like construction sand but it seems impossible to find… I just don’t know…. Anyways thanks for listening to my ranting. I’m just ranting. Let me focus. One thing at a time. The link you gave me above and deworming. Then after I take care of the tape worm I’m thinking of giving them sage gaurd to kill any other potential worms!!!

I do think I see some tapeworm segments in the bloody poops. How much Zimectrin Gold are you giving orally?
wow you have a great eye!!

Yes orally. 0.3 ml for 5 lb I gave them both that much this am.. and changed the water feeders and added a fresh syringe of corid in both waters. So it’s day 2 of 5 for the corid and day 1 of the zirmectirm gold. But I forgot how often I need to give it to them. I’m sure I have it written down. Since I had to do the zirmectrim a few months ago. I need to do something to get rid of tape worm…

Read post 6 in the thread below for dosage of Zimectrin Gold, and it is supposed to be repeated after 14 days:
https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/worming-chickens-with-zimecterin-gold.1314819/
Does that seem right to you? See pics below. Thats the dosing instructions I used before. It says 0.3ml for 5 lbs. for the zimectrim gold.. so I just gave them 0.3ml. Then I’ll repeat in 14 days. Then after the 14 days wait another 14 days before I can go ahead and eat the eggs again. That’s the only bugger about this… but we got to do what we got to do.
