Hello, so I just put my flock away, and only counted 7 and then I noticed my one hen (lacy) was just standing there looking off into space. I picked her up and saw that yellow and clear liquid was running out of her vent. Can someone please help me? what do I do? Also, I was wondering if it was possible that she just didn't form an eggshell, or if her poop was just weird. thanks a lot! -Keziah

Oh my!
So, she may have passed a shell less egg, or soft shell egg formed and has or has not passed yet.
Also likely that there are egg shell fragments from a normal egg that broke internally.

I would think that a bath and antibiotics are in order, but wait for an "expert" here.

What are you feeding and do you supplement calcium (such as oyster shell)?

we feed Purina® Layena pellets and yes we supply with oyster shells and limestone so they have options. The layena pellets contain high calcium so they eggs should have strong shells just from that. the description of the bag says "Optimum nutrition for healthy birds and nutritious eggs. A 16%-protein, high-calcium ration formulated with prebiotics, probiotics and yeast for top-producing laying hens once they reach 18 weeks of age.

Purina® Layena® includes our Oyster Strong® System for strong shells. Oyster shell provides another source of calcium when the hens need it most. Oyster shell is a larger particle size than limestone. This means that the oyster shell will stay in the digestive tract longer and will provide a source of calcium for eggshell production over a longer period of time than smaller particle sources of calcium. This is especially important at night when eggshell formation is rapidly occurring and dietary sources of calcium are limited because the bird is not eating."

so idk whats wrong? is she sick?

Sometimes these issues just happen, and may never repeat.
Unfortunately, sometimes these issues are due to reproductive problems that cannot be fixed.

I wish I knew more to give you more specifics. I'm sure someone else will see this soon.

Pictures of the material coming out of the vent or on the ground are welcome. Is it bright yellow like egg yolk? It sounds like there was a shell-less egg that came out. I would insert a finger into her vent for 1-2 inches to feel for any retained shell or an egg membrane. Wear a disposable glove if you have one. You may try giving 1/2 human calcium tablet or Tums, or grind up an egg shell very fine, and feed it in a bit of cooked egg to her.

shes 2 years and one month old, and has been laying since 25 weeks.

Did she molt at about 18 months old?

Where in this world are you located?
Climate, and time of year, is almost always a factor.
Please add your general geographical location to your profile.
It's easy to do, (laptop version shown), then it's always there!
