I have a 21 week old Australorp who hasn't started laying eggs yet -- but is showing signs. She began sitting more often than usual last week and I thought maybe she was just "getting ready" to lay.

This has been going on for over a week now --she seems to eat and drink ok but is sitting all the time. She will follow the others to where they are going and then plop down and sit until they move out of her vision and then she'll get up and follow them to the next spot.

I am now beginning to think something is wrong with her -- it just doesn't seem right ---any ideas about what is up with this little lady? I want to help her if I can!

patience... it will sort itself out more than likely.

ok also noticed she is holding her tail down -- almost tucked under her.

it is excellent that you are keeping an eye out on her... if you see her tail bobbing/straining and still no egg after a reaonable time (more than a day) then move her to a warm bath etc. ( lots of posts here in this forum on that under EGGBOUND)

yeah that's what I was wondering - can she be eggbound on her first egg?? I checked her vent and it looks fine -- pale and clear.
