Monday I noticed one of my hens, Betty seemed to be a little lethargic. Betty is usually the leader of the pack but I often saw her separatefrom the others (very unusual.) Tuesday morning she came out of her coop in the morning like normal but mostly just laid on our back porch all day. I was away most of the day, but last night rather than than roosting up on her normal spot, she laid on the ground tucked away. I got her off the ground and looked for any obvious signs something was wrong, but put her up on her spot. This morning my husband found her back on the same spot on the ground, dead. She didn’t have anything obviously wrong. Her comb still looked pretty and red, no diarrhea and she laid eggs both of those days. I just can’t imagine what happened but I hope it doesn’t affect the rest of my girls. My heart is heavy

welcome to byc, Are you 100% sure she laid eggs both those days?
What do you feed,whats there run like , could she have gotten to any bad plants?

I am sorry for your loss

@MysteryChicken

So sorry for your loss. Mine seemed similar and died of cancer, unsure if this could be the case or is related, just thought i would mention it. Maybe a necropsy could be worth doing?

What's their normal feed, plus treats, & how often?

Also how did her abdomen feel?
