Right now our yard is so dead from the heat that my girls are pigging out at the feeders again. If we had more land, and especially some trees and such where there would be bugs despite the heat I doubt they would need much feed in the spring/summer, but right now our yard is parched.
Perhaps the quality if their "range" wasn't very good at all, or perhaps they were penned like someone else suggested.
Poor kids.
Could just be the heat too. I've noticed my big RIR roo looking slimmer lately, and it's NOT from lack of food or from mites, but the roo pen hasn't been emptying their feeders as fast as they used to. The girls eat coz they have to lay, but the boys seem like they just aren't eating as much in the heat.
