I'm going to take this back to this particular hen's laying issues. I recently read about the added benefits of calcium that go beyond shell formation. That the calcium also improves muscle tone for moving the egg along the reproductive tract.
If this bird continues to have an issue one thing to try is Calci Boost. It is a liquid form of calcium that is used with goats. For my bantams I use just a .10 to .20 cc's once a week. I've found this individual dose to work very well in helping a new layer get going in the right direction. Sometimes free choice calcium is just not enough from some birds and they need a helping hand in the early going.
I have one in my coop that had consistently laid soft shelled eggs, the addition of calci boost finally got her laying excellent quality eggs. I no longer dose her since she seems to finally have gotten her reproductive systems up and running normally.
