Poor Horsies *update in thread*

Kudos for helping out a person in need. Maybe someday he will pay it forward.

In the meantime, maybe you or the owner could scour the want ads such as Craigslist for free or low cost hay. I just got several bales of hay for free from a photographer who used it as a prop in a photo shoot. He was going to throw it away and then decided to give it away. Lucky me--nine bales of the exact same grass hay I buy from the exact same feed store!

Even last years hay will work as long as it's been stored properly.

I also found a rescue that might take the sickly ex-track horse. And I may have found the guy a place to get a job. Not great pay I'm sure (non-profit horse rescue), but they could take the other two, he could work there and keep an eye on his two horses.

Heck we get free grass hay/alfalfa from the guy that runs the neighbor farm. We get all the broken bales that they have that come undone for whatever reason, and are taking up room. He is glad to be rid of them and there is so many our goats could never clean it up.

i am thankfull the owner is still attempting to feed them and i am thankfull there are still people out there who still know how to be human to others. good job, glad to be on the same forum as you. your karma is coming

i wish i was close as i have a 3 acres of great pasture and plenty of hay that i could let the horses stay until the owner gets back on his feet. thankyou for looking out for them and i pray they are all ok.

Bless you for doing what you're doing! If I was closer, I'd send a couple round bales his way... or better yet take them all on until he could find them homes. Poor guy!

Hello. I am sorry I did not update everyone.
Last Saturday he did finally find the remaining three horses a place to stay. The stable is an hour a way and they are willing to work with him on fees so that the horses can be kept safe and healthy until they could get things together. His wife had worked at the race track, and one of the trainers found this place and worked out the deal. All seemed good. Sunday morning my neighbor passed away. After all the stress and finally getting some relief he just let it go. We have heard it was natural causes. He wasn't old, but hadn't had doctor's care in a few years and he had diabetes.
Thank you all for the warm thoughts to me. All the horses are good. Two of the original five were sold to a friend of our family and she has asked us to come and ride them (they are horses 5 and 6 for her).

I'm so sorry Suess. You really did a great thing and at least the poor guy had the peace of knowing everything was going to be taken care of before he passed.

We drove out the last of the stuff to our neighbor's family friend today. She is about an hour away and is the one that took in the last three horses. They all are looking great! Even the skinny race horse was looking fabulous. The spark is back in his eye and he is gaining weight. My daughter didn't point at him and call him sick this time. We gave her more money for what she is doing. She told us she had a feeling when Sam dropped them off that she would be feeding them for sometime and wasn't planning on getting any money for it. She was greatful to us for helping.
Just thought I'd let you all know how they are.
