Poor Marble got bitten by a dog. VetWrap?

She is still doing pretty good. Just not sure what else to do, besides wait and see...
The smell is 95% gone. But big black scab still overhanging on the pink stuff underneath..
The green is less well, green. But still kinda there. Not sure if that's the smell or the scab...
And will her naked, surrounding skin grow back over the wound completely on its own?

Sorry, I just want it all better NOW. Stressful..

Do not use peroxide it kills skin cells, saline would be better. Do not remove the scab, leave it alone. When a dog attacks a hen, the hen squats much like when a rooster tops her, which is why dogs kill more hens than roos. From the picture she is bit in the back. Her lungs are in her back. Do not remove that scab. Albon if you have it is a good antibiotic for the dog bite. There is a spray trying to remember the name its yellow furizolidone is as close as I can remember. Not a TSC item, try a better mill farm store. It may be for horses, much better than Blukote.

I had 3 severely injured hens last July (many more dead) from a dog attack. Used PenicillinG for 3days (from TSC), cleaned the wounds 2x/day with Chlorhexidine (sp?) soap and rinse - got a bottle of each from my vet, and slathered all wounds with antibiotic ointment after cleaning. Walmart has it cheap, I went thru a lot. Used a syringe to gently flush tunnels and under flapping skin parts. Used some kind of Fly paste to deter flies (July). No bandages on the wounds, just ointment. Electrolytes in the water (TSC). Kept them isolated in wire cages 24/7 with a fan blowing (again, July). Cried every morning at 3:30 am while I was treating them before going to work, wondering what the hell I was doing as I looked at all this raw, loose, flappy, torn flesh. Can't tell now they were ever injured, and my French Copper Marans (MaransChick) will be hatching up to 12 eggs on Jan 15th.

Thank you for the success story!!! That makes me feel tons better!

Marble is indeed looking better. The big scab thing is doing what it's supposed to by drying up and peeling off. Nothing smells bad at all anymore. I really did have moments where I wondered if she would pull through. But SHE never acted like anything was wrong. Strong girl...
I am very hopeful for her now. And will continue to flush it at least twice daily and cover it with ointment.

Awesome. Be patient, it looks like you'll be fine. I waited until I couldn't find ANY raw sites larger than about a quarter, then covered every last tiny speck of unfeathered skin (including the few tiny raw sites) with the Blu Kote before reintegrating them with my other survivors. No issues at all with pecking. And I'm in total awe at how all the feathering came back. I mean there were large CHUNKS of tissue missing! . . .

Yea, even the parts of her that aren't torn, have tons of missing feathers.
Surprisingly none of my other girls have been picking on her whatsoever. I haven't had to separate them at all. I am very grateful of that.

I remember seeing a very curious spot on her back though, near the wound, and I couldn't tell if it was infected or what it was. Could it be her " grease spot"? If so, and if it was injured will it come back? Or do chickens not even have a grease spot??

Hey guys!!! How bout an update?
Marb looks great!!! I have y'all to thank for that!
Thanks sooo much for all the tips and success stories! I hope none of my hens ever have to be in pain again, but if they ever do have an emergency I now know how to help them better. And man, they are tough!
Now, pics!!!

Thanks for the update, I'm glad to hear she's doing great. Too often people don't tell how things finished and I wonder what happened.

By the way, I forgot earlier to mention that chicken bruises (at least on my roo and girls) are bright green . . .
