I finally got my "kitten"(he's now 7 months old), that I kept from one cat's litter, fixed. I really HATE the E-collar he has to wear, it makes him look and act so pathetic. He misjudges the distance between him and other objects, and bumps the collar on everything. He's also laying on me and rolling around as if to say, "Can someone please help me get this thing off?!?" But I am glad he's finally through his surgery, and now all me cats are altered.

I have had all but one of my pets altered. I would spend the money on the spay or neutered rather than what a relative wants.

Does he really need the e collar? I've never had to use it on a cat post neuter. I would take it off and keep an eye on him to make sure he isn't bothering the area....but I bet he'd be fine.

Good job having them all fixed

Well, I've had cats for almost all my life, and this time and earlier in the year when I had my chihuahua and the 2 momma kitties altered, are the only times I've had to use E-collars. I think it's something a lot of vets/clinics have started recommending, as it's easier to use the collars than to have to rush the animal to an emergency clinic because they bothered the area. Alos, this clinic uses glue/tape and not stitches-----so it would be easier for an animal to lick the incision open.

All my dogs are altered, too. My youngest son was upset the cat was getting neutered, and asked, "Why do you have to keep getting my animals fixed?" I replied, cause they're broken."

Really, he knows why I choose to get them fixed-----there are WAY too many unwanted animals in the world----I'm against breeding of any kind of dog or cat (whether the breeder is reputable or not).

I'd try him without the e-collar and see if he even bothers it. Cats are usually smarter than dogs when it comes to incisions and not messing with them while they are healing and feline neuters really aren't as big a deal as spays or dog neuters. None of the vets I know even bother to close the incision when they neuter a cat with either glue or sutures.

They have better collars than those huge e collars now.... they dont stick out so far ..so the animals can eat and drink and walk around fine...
Petco had them... for dogs anyways.. probably cats too.
