I heard the chickens going off this morning... I looked out my window just in time to see my poor roo Russle, being carried away by a bald eagle... All I could do was hope that his end came quike.

RIP big boy.

Just another lesson learned, but the hens now know to run for cover, and to watch the sky. The really sad part is, that we wern't able to get even one clutch out of russle...

Guess I need to start looking for a roo.

The hens sure are staying close to the house and trees, guess I will be watching a little closer. Though there really isnt anything I can do about an eagle. I had my ducks outside yesterday, and if it wasn't for my wiener dog, it would have taken one of my scovy babies.

I hope this reminds people to not just watch what comes out of the bushes, but watch the sky as well. Especially if you free range your birds.

that is sad...poor beautiful boy...my Walter watches the sky constantly as we have an abundance of hawks...one landed on one of my BA pullets one evening when I happened to be right there...I uppercut him with the bucket I had in my hand and he stayed away for a while but they are back...good luck finding a roo for your ladies...

Thanks everyone. It helped to get the off my chest. Poor guy was just over a year old. I just wish I could have gotten at least one clutch from him. But as soon as the new coop and run are finished, I wont have to worry about it anymore.
