Poor TSC chicks...

I'm sorry yall's experience's were so bad our TSC took excellent care of the chicks.
Always water and food available and one lady moved the weak or injured to their own box.
The lights were on one end of the tank and they could escape the heat if they wanted.
Any Chicks that are there over a week are discounted and sold.

To bad all TSC can't be like ours

I will say though the rabbit situation was totaly different (Bad) they had adult rabbits.
"I'll just say this" somebody will be getting some little suprise's in 30 days.

Our local feed store will give away sick or injured ones. First they try to heal them a little in a seperate pen. Also, the gal that cares for them actually seems to know a little about chickens as she gave me sound advice for the chick I tried to save.

Why take that chance? You do realize that if you intentionally take in sick/weak chicks that may have some disease, and the State gets wind of it, they'll come in and destroy your entire flock and those of your neighbors. While I appreciate the 'save the animals' attitude, at some point you have to use some reason. Do you want to save one or two sick ones, or loose all of your healthy ones???

You go! I agree with you a 100%. Losing all your healthy birds for the sake of a couple of weak chicks doesn't seem reasonable. But you do what you feel you have to!

What strikes me as strange is that I have now gotten a total of 29 chicks as day old chicks and haven't had any sick or die. I realize that I am a fortunate one as so many have posted about sick or dying ones lately. I just wonder if most of it is TSC's fault for all these that die or are weak. If I did take in any weak ones they would be FAR away from my others. I have a place for them.

TSC chicks are shipped from various hatcheries. I think it is unreasonable to expect TSC's shipped chicks to not have the same problems many folks here have said they experienced. SHipping chicks is shipping chicks regardless of who is recieving them.

That being said, I have been to 2 TSCs in my area. One had knowledgeable employees and the other did not. Both are fairly rural. I think the care of the chicks and the knowledge of the staff is a direct reflection of the management of the store and NOT the TSC as a whole.

I bought some egg layers a couple weeks back. They were cute and had just arrived. I have kept them seperate from my other birds. They are happy and healthy and growing. I am not a super huge fan of TSC. But I don't think the whole company should be condemed because certain stores are not being dilligent.

It's no different than going into any chain store and finding dirty floors, rude service and low stock. It happens at Wal Mart, Kroger, Petsmart, etc. It's just not a tollerable to see when it's living creatures suffering for it.

If you see something wrong, you should contact management and if no satisfaction is reached, the call the company. If they don't know it's wrong, it'll not get fixed.

Most of the chicks that i observed having problems were smaller than the others and for the most part trampled.
I don't think any were sick sickness usually shows up later in chicks.

I have dealt with several hatcheries through the years and never received a sick chick.
I have received ones like those i stated above weaker and smaller but no sickness.
In my honest opinion theres no reason to fear these chicks and they need the individual attention from a caring person.
Our local TSC buys chicks from privett and i have 35 of them they are 6 weeks old and doing just great.
