Hello everyone, I'm new here and just wanted to ask for some advice about one of my girls. For about a week she's been very lethargic, just standing up and closing her eyes, she hasn't had a very good appetite, and her poop is watery greenish yellow with brownish black lumps in it. She also doesn't walk around much as if her back end is painful or sore. At first I thought it could be vent gleet because her feathers were all pasted with yellow poop or discharge. I've separated her from the other hens and have been giving her water with apple cider vinegar and garlic through a syringe as I don't think she drinks enough on her own. I've been giving her some yoghurt too through a syringe as she doesn't like it and won't eat it by herself. She hasn't laid an egg in over two months since she was egg bound and had to take her to the vet, luckily they were able to take the egg out. She's a Calder ranger and is about 2 years old. A quick google search just now made me think it could be coccidiosis? But I'm not sure, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi there! :welcome You should probably take her to a vet, the pop is definitely not normal. What is her diet?

At the moment it's anything she's willing to eat, mainly some mealworms, cucumber, lettuce and some porridge. Last time I took her to the vet she went into shock and I'm just worried if I take her she won't survive the shock as she's quite weak :(

I would guess that she may have a reproductive disorder. Do you have any pictures of her standing or how her backend looks? Does her crop feel full and puffy or firm, does it empty overnight, and is her lower back end swollen or enlarged? Yellow poop sometimes can be a sign of infection or internal laying.

Her crop feels quite soft, I wouldn't say her back end is swollen but maybe looks a bit sore. I've been giving her butt baths to keep her clean but it just always seems to be poop stuck to the feathers :( she sits down a lot too and when she walks she's quite wobbly and walks very slowly. Hope these photos help a bit

When my hens have reproductive problems, they have soft mushy crops. If you smell a sour odor from the beak, she might have sour crop. Feel her crop in the early morning before she eats to check if it is still full and soft. Keep her vent area cleaned up, so that flies don’t lay eggs on her vent. Try feeding a little cottage cheese and some cooked egg, or a little cooked rice with some buttermilk. Those have probiotics and can firm up the droppings.

She has some scaly leg mites, so you might want to soak her legs in warm soapy water, and when dry apply some vaseline p, castor, or coconut oil once a week. Any oil is fine, even Crisco shortening.

That's fantastic thank you so much, will try some cottage cheese as she doesn't like the yoghurt. I have been feeding her some scrambled eggs though so will keep doing that :)

Wow. Metalwork are definitely a good source of protein, as the scrambled.eggs. Keep trying and keep us posted! :fl
