Poorly duckling - bent neck! Please help.

Hey.

Wilbur is still the same, he has also developed breathing problems and also foam in one of his eyes. So we have had a visit to the vets today, they have been great. They think he has a respiratory infection - possibly bacterial. They have given us some antibiotics to give him and will go back next week to check progress.
She has said she is quite concerned about it, and she wanted us to be clear that they were unsure of the outcome. But to give him the antibiotics and this can hopefully be a starting point. She has also said this is why his neck is the way it is - it's one of the symptoms. She didn't criticise what we had been doing to look after him, she said we had clearly tried to do the right thing. And Edee our other duck is fine and healthy.

He is still eating and drinking, and walking around and going in water. Still lays down a bit, but this has to be expected.

Fingers crossed for this to work and for him to get better.

I will keep you updated.

I am glad you have a vet to help you out.....poor little guy. I will keep Wilbur in my prayers and look forward to a positive update

Hey.

It's been a little while. Up date on Wilbur - he is still the same. We think his neck will permantly stay this way now. But he is still happy, eats, drinks and loves being with Edee our other duck. He's being doing ok, we found he was quite scared of the water out side and would only dip his beak in, so we have been putting him in our bath tub with lukewarm water and he loves it. So that's a relief - he certainly needed a good wash. He also still suffers from foamy eye occasionally and he can't clean them properly so we have been Using camomile tea - this is brilliant stuff.

The vets we spoke to thinks he has something called white muscles disease - which has come from the mother having a vitamin deficiency and passed it on.

We started a thread for ducks with special needs and would love for you to share your story for others to read in order to help others........ I am glad to hear he is happy and i know it can be hard but he is lucky to have you and you are doing a wonderful job..........my blind duck is now having seizures and its been hard but to me its no different then if i had a kid with special needs..... so keep up the good work
