Thank you.I Love your group.
I need help please, my young goose around 9 months old flew down the road to another dam after getting spooked.
I have the father only as the mother died. I took the father down and the young one came out of the dam and started to follow me and the other goose but its a bit of a walk back and he flew back to the dam. How do I catch the young one as he is very nervous. I go down the hill to feed him twice a day. Would love some Ideas, Thank You.

I'm sorry to hear about your escaped/wandering goose. I've never kept geese before, so don't have much help of my own unfortunately. However, if you post in the Geese section (Geese) you should get some answers. There are many knowledgeable waterfowl people on this site that will be happy to help!

I hope all goes well with your geese! Welcome to our flock.

Maybe you could leave a trail of feed for him and he will follow long enough for you to get a net or something over him - so you can return him to his home. I think if you do though, he will fly back to his new area unless he is in a run with a top.

You may like to ask this questions on the "Duck thread," to see how they would handle him. He may also have flown off looking for a mate.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I've never had geese, I'm a chicken person but if your youngster has already bonded with the dam, it seems as though it may be hard to get him back to stay. Is there any chance the owner of the dam would let you buy her? Or maybe you could trade the young one for another bird?

The goose forum folks will probably have some good ideas for you, Wyandottes7 has left you the link.

Hope things work out for all of you.

We had something very similar happen a few years ago, and our geese ended up in a neighbors field about a mile down the road. We chased them into some brush and than caught them with a large fish net.

Thank you All. I went down to the dam twice a day and fed the goose and then I showed it some grain bread and it came right up to me and after a few days of that it came close enough for me to grab it and now its wings are clipped and back with its dad.
