I put deer netting over the electric fenced area last year and I found it very fussy to do, it tangled, I couldn't really easily move the fence. So this year I decided to chance it and accept whatever losses I will incur with just the electric fence, to be repositioned every few weeks I will have three nets connected together for a large area in the woods for them to roam. After the underbrush starts growing out I think the chickens will probably have enough cover to hide from hawks. They'll just need to learn not to eat the fern, as I think it's not good for them. They already learned that the fence bites, so I hope they'll learn to leave it alone and go scratching a foot away from the fence.
