Possibility of my son attending school with a murderer

Wow! Three new kids in one class? That's unusual, especially since there are only a few months left in the school year. How many kindergarten classes are there?

I haven't read anything really, except the first post and a few after. The thing that would scare me is, no matter how "justified" the shooting was, it still means that there's something mentally wrong with the child. What happens when nobody in school wants to play with him and they're all terrified of him and/or pick on him because he's a murderer? That will make a child snap as well, and he has already killed two people. Scary stuff.

Those who do not see a serious threat here should read up on sociopaths and/or psychopaths (basically the same thing.) Psychotherapy has basically a zero percent rate of effectiveness of treatment for these people. They apparently do not develop this problem in later life, but are born this way, or else develop it quite early in life.

Some years ago, maybe around 1980, idk, this country chose to empty its mental hospitals of most of its patients or inmates, and many of these hospitals closed down. The idea was to "mainstream" them. This may very well have been the best thing that ever happened to a number of folks; it certainly was, in some cases, and I can even testify to a few. But it also left us with a vast number of schizophrenic people who cannot function in society, much less support themselves, and a group of psychopaths.

Definitions of "psychotic" generally include some reference to lack of full contact with "reality." Schizophrenics generally have some sort of disconnect with reality operating, but in most cases, this is no threat to you and I. Psychopaths have no trouble perceiving "reality," or operating in everyday society. They are not "crazy," or psychotic, in the sense that they are well aware of what you and I see as reality. They simply see "reality" as something to be used to their advantage, with no interest in, or regard for, the welfare of anyone/anything else. This must be read in the extreme. A psychopath has no problem with making $20 just because it might cost you your life. And he is clever enough to ensure that the connection is never made; a psychopath, or sociopath, is generally quite intelligent. Much more likely to be a con artist than a mugger. Recent events have made it apparent that con artists can operate at very high levels....

Actually, the schizophrenic often are quite intelligent as well, for that
matter.

I wonder if posting this on a public forum is going to cause me some sort of grief. I would not be surprised.

Currently, there are many pharmaceuticals that enable those who have symptoms of schizophrenia to lead healthy lives. Many of these people are happier when they receive appropriate assistance. This group doesn't want to be this way. However, resistance to taking medication is symptomatic of this illness.

People who are sociopaths are truly frightening. They are often charming, intelligent, and have absolutely no remorse after they've hurt others. There is no medication or therapy that will change their behaviours, ever. They don't want to change. Life is a game, and other people are their prey.

3 classes.
From what I gather there is a higher than "normal" transient population in the city this year. Due to the recession. So they are still accepting children into the classes. One actually starts today.
My neighbor is the teachers aid in my daughters class and I spoke with her this morning. None of the incoming children speak or write English. She doesnt know how they expect this to "work" for the kids and the class as a whole.

Oh and they just cut the TA hours back AND next year will have 1 TA work 4 hours between 2 classrooms.

That's really ridiculous. At that age, there really shouldn't be more than 21 or 22 children in each class. It'd be better to have lower numbers without a TA, than to have larger classes with someone constantly going back and forth. Why does the school district do this?

It's like this in all the schools in the city. And we live in one of the "better" areas.
I am trying to get my dd out of the city school system. But all the districts are full. So we are stuck until the economy swings back and we can sell and move.
I still have no idea when classes are ending for the summer this year for the kids. All those snow days.

And I need to know for work reasons. The school admin cant even handle basic communications with the parents. Heck not even the teachers know. And my dh wonders why I am so on edge about her education and safety.

We are required to accept new students who have moved into our area up until the last 5 days of school. It is law that they be enrolled in school and we can't turn them down if they are in our district. We just started our last quarter yesterday and we have 18 new students in our school whose parents decided to move right before the end of the year.

A very dear friend adopted an 8 yr old who had been severely abused. He was removed from his home at age 2 because the neighbors discovered that his parents left him in the rabbit hutch when they went to town. After that, it was bad foster care and group homes. His psychiartist said he was a sociopath. My friend had no parenting experience and ( imo) recieved terrible professional advice. She had to release him back to the state by age 16. He went through a really bad adolescence and then entered a Christian halfway house. As an adult, he has a steady job and has been married for more than 10 years. He considers my friends his parents and is a loving father to his kids. There is always hope.
