Hi. Just wondering if anyone can tell me what possible colors I could expect from my eggs. I have one cage of dark brown girls laying celadon eggs and two silver roos, one is a silver tuxedo. I have one cage of a light light tan almost red hen laying celadon eggs, one Pharaoh {aka wild type} hen, one Pansy Fee hen and a silver tuxedo roo, one cage with a Pansy Fee hen, a silver hen and silver roos, one is a silver tuxedo.

I want to hatch some of the eggs, tending to want to keep the celadon gene {I love these little blue eggs!}

Has anyone had these combinations of colors and what colors did you hatch out?

The pic is the little tan/reddish hen laying celadon eggs and her little Silver Tuxedo roo. There are other hens as well but it's a bit difficult to get them all in one pic. They're fast.

Thanks!

Are they on wire all the time? They'll get bumblefoot.

It's not wire, it's plastic. And no. They get shavings made for chickens but they throw it all out of the cage quickly so they don't get it all the time.
They sell this thing on Amazon for birds to stop them from tossing out there seeds it's like this stretchy mesh band thing that u stretch around it like a tutu and it bounces off it like a wall for the lower part of the cage to catch it can readjust ad needed I only mentioned it cuz u got that style cage bars and it works on them and I'm sure they would enjoy not losing it for long periods cuz of there bathing and kicking habits and I know u don't wanna buy extra needlessly

I've seen those sheer skirts. Being a professional seamstress, it would be rather simple to make them. But. The thing is, I have cardboard around all sides of the cage and even in the front is a 6-8" barrier. Most of it goes under the cage through the little plastic squares even though the bedding is quite a bit larger than the squares and there is no preventing that. Appreciate your input though. I have 9 cages and they all do that. It's not going "out" of the cage onto the floor, it's going under it. Chewy.com and petco.com also carry them.

Put some non slip rubber mat u can buy at dollar tree over the plastic then put it down the holes are so small it won't waste, big rolls of it if u have a dollar tree

Well. I live in a small Village and we don't have things like a dollar store lol. Only one grocery store. But. If the holes are any smaller, their feces would pile up in the cage and become cemented to their feet when they walk through it. I've seen that happen and it takes at least an hour of soaking the foot in epsom salts to remove the feces build up.

What many people will do when they keep the birds on wire, regular or plastic coated, is they put cardboard boxes with dirt or bedding in the cage so the birds can get a rest. When the box gets pooped up and gross, you throw it out and put in a new one. Some people will use boxes with short sides so the birds can hop in and out all around, or you can use a regular box and just cut out a doorway so less bedding falls out. Whether the wire is plastic coated or not, the narrow lines put localized pressure on their feet. It’s like humans walking on gravel barefoot, it won’t necessarily do visible damage right away, but standing on it isn’t comfortable. They should have somewhere at all times that they can rest their feet off the plastic coated wire. If you give them bedding and they get poop coated on their feet, you most likely aren’t changing the bedding often enough for the amount of birds, or there are too many birds for the space allotted.

Ive raised plenty of birds on wire cages and theyve never gotten bumblefoot, quail are raised in wire cages all the time, thats just about the only way ive seen breeders raised. Do what works for you and I wouldnt worry 🤟

As for the topic of your post, Im not of any help lol but best of luck with your breeding!!

Thank you . Was getting a bit weary of all the "expert" comments on my cage floor ignoring my initial question. It's quite rare that there is not bedding on the floor of the cages and I really didn't appreciate the lectures based on little to no information and only seeing one photo.

I decided I don't care what the opinions are since they all decided to make this their own personal critic topic, and put some eggs in the incubator this morning. Wonder how many critical comments "this" pic will get. lol
