So I went to an Easter party today, and the lady hosting the party thought it would be cute to buy 15 chicks to use as decoration in Easter baskets in the center of each table. It WAS cute, and they had food and water, but it was a chilly day today and they were freezing. These people raise chickens for Foster Farms, so you can imagine their attitude toward "livestock." Anyway, they purchase these chicks at TSC but weren't sure of the breed they purchased (apparently they just asked for any old chicken.) They offered us the chicks to take home, so I took 2 as that's all I can really handle at the moment. I would PREFER not to have to eat them, and would like to keep them as layers, so...

I need some advice! Are Cornish decent enough layers? Will they be okay to keep into adulthood and let them live as long as they will, or would I be better off sending them to freezer camp?

Help!

From what i understand they dont live long and hardly lay at all. I know for a fact they eat alot and are very messy and grow quickly. I had to give mine away when i realized what I had because i wouldnt be able to kill them. They get very big and theur legs cant support them.

Sigh...poor babies. We'll probably have to send em off to camp then. That will make my husband happy, he was not thrilled with me taking home two new chickens
