I have 26 freedom rangers that are getting butchered this weekend. When I went out to feed and water the chickens I noticed one of the hens had a large lump in her crop area this morning. When I felt it it was a hard lump. I came inside to research what to do. I then went back outside to check on her again and see if massaging the crop would help since I felt it was impacted. This time it was fluid-y and no hard lump. It is very floppy too. I thought I also detected an almost wheezy sound from the bird. This was in less than an hour from one inspection to the other. She is moving around fine and really seems fine otherwise. Could it be a sour crop so quickly? Is this something I can clear up before we butcher this weekend? Will this meat bird be safe to eat?

Sour crop causes a foul smell from the mouth and a very sick looking bird. If the bird is acting fine I would butcher. Sick birds should be culled and probably not eaten. I would go by their behaviors. I'm no meat expert though.

It's possible she may have a pendulous crop. It could be putting pressure on her windpipe causing her to wheeze. An impacted gizzard could cause 'back up' as well.
I see no reason why you cant process her. Simply inspect the edible parts and if there's something amiss, toss it in the garbage.
