Possible depressed turkey poult, need advice!

My husband and I recently got two 4-5 week old turkey poults to add to our backyard flock. Hubby was excited to have a pair for pets. Yesterday evening. One died rather unexpectedly. The other was fine, but I noticed it pecking at the sick one trying to get it to move and get up just before it died. Today, the remaining poult is alert, but not wanting to get up and move around much. I’ve put our two Jersey Giant chicks in with it and they have been laying with it and keeping it company. The turkey seems to like them but though alert still, doesn’t make much effort to move around unless I come over to the cage. Is it possible that it’s depressed? What can I do for it? I’m feeding it 26% protein feed and have been putting apple cider vinegar in it’s water. (We were given two poults to be a pair, but I’m unsure if I have the make or female remaining. I feel like it’s the male as it is much larger than the one that passed. ‍♀️) Any help or advice is much appreciated!

Yes turkeys can get severely depressed. While the chicks are better company than nothing, it will do better with companions of its own kind. Chicks and turkeys do not speak the same language.

The first thing I would do is to get rid of the ACV. I don't know where you are but most places in the northern hemisphere are getting hot. Giving ACV when the temperature is hot can be harmful.

I do not recommend having a pair of opposite sex turkeys. If you want to keep turkeys for pets, get a pair of hens. I try to keep at least 4 to 5 hens for one tom. A single hen with a tom can be harmful to her health. A single hen with multiple toms is in even worse danger.

Thank you so much! I am in Louisiana. Currently the turkey and two chicks are still in my house lol They aren’t big enough for the pen with the older ones so they are inside for now. I’ve been giving it lots of extra attention and it drank from a lid in my hand earlier, then stood and drank on its own. So I’m hoping everything is going to go well through the night!
