I think my rooster has a possible dislocated wing, if there is such a thing. He's my favorite baby, what can I do to fix it?

Hi there, welcome to BYC! :frow

Sorry it's taken so long to get a response.. that happens sometimes when folks just aren't sure what to suggest. I agree with the first poster that your photo doesn't show anything discernible.

I have YET to see a chicken get a dislocated wing... but I'm sure it could happen. I have personally dislocated my elbow... it was excruciatingly painful and I had no control over the bottom part of my arm... it just dangled loosely and swollen. What are you seeing that give you concern for this boy? Are you able to upload a video using vimeo, youtube or other and link here?

If indeed it's a dislocation... it would need to be reduced... (put back in place manually). Are you able to see a vet to get a professional opinion? Adding your general location to your profile can help folks make their best suggestions possible at a glance!

You boy does a few scabs indicating either a recent pox infection or some good fighting. If he has recently been to battle... he could be battered and bruised with some soreness that should go away within a few days. Is he continuing to crow and staying with the flock.. still eating and drinking??

Hope he's fine! :fl

What makes you think that? Can you feel a separation at a joint in the wing, or is it drooping? It's hard to tell from your picture.

I tried to get a good picture, but it's hard, he moves around a lot. Anyway, if you look at his chest area, it is all poofed out abnormally. I have 3 roosters and 7 hens, so yes, he has been fighting with one of the other roosters, that is why you see the scabs on his comb. I think that he may have dislocated his wing from one of his fights with the other rooster. I can't shoot any of them for being aggressive, I am way too attached to them all, but he is my absolute favorite, he lets me hold him and he walks around with me. Can they get a dislocated wing?

I don't think a wing injury would cause his chest to look funny.
Pick him up and handle his wing. Do you feel a gap in the bones/joints? I'm sure some separation can occur, but based on the information you've given, I highly doubt that is the case. Birds, even chickens, have quite a lot of muscle about their wing structures. I can't imagine it would do anything less than a lot of damage, most likely causing the wing to drag badly.

No wing drag, just extremely puffed out neck. He doesn't seem to be in pain. Can't get into the vet unless it's an emergency because of all this "social distancing" crap.

Is it his crop that is puffed out? The crop is located towards the right of the breastbone and it fluctuates in size throughout the day as they eat. Did he eat a lot today? Has his crop been functioning properly? Empty first thing in the morning? Any smells coming from his beak?

If you are already aware of this, please accept my apologies. I just wanted to help if possible and don't want to make any assumptions either way.

Best wishes with your very handsome guy!

It's his neck area. No smells. He's eating and acting fine but wants to stay away from the other roosters. It's been almost a week now. No improvement.
