Hi all,

I thought my 2 1/2 year old Columbian blacktail was Egg bound. She has been very lethargic and comb is pale, droopy. She hasn't laid this year yet, but was a very good layer up until November last year. She now has a huge lump on or back end which feel egg-shaped. I bathed her, vaselined her vent but nothing. She is not trying to lay, or going into the house constantly. This has been going on for just over a week now and I feel very bad for her, should I just put her down or does it sound fixable? I don't really know what else to do. She is still eating and drinking fine, but stands around hunched over for most of the day.

Thanks

yes that's a great idea in above post! sometimes you can find liquid calcium for birds but its hard to find and time is of essence here. it probably wouldn't hurt to put her on a antibiotic at this point too. she's in serious danger. I'd do the calcium ASAP and do a general anti infective antibiotic like Gallamycine or what ever general anti infective you can find. I wish you the best
perhaps try a lube like KY jelly its the best for a lube. its not thick like vasoliene and can help. I'd also do the KY jelly. so give those things a try and let us know. good luck
