It seems that the wet stuff i saw under the roost was actually an egg.. I was able to check when i got home from work todayand the wet stuff is definnitly yolk... I checked her vent and she is not hard.. i wil keep her in the crate a few days ... I am so glad she passed it..

I know people are cheering about what your girl passed but I am concerned if she passed only egg content and no shell. There is a chance it broke inside of her and if it did, she is at risk for serious infection, in which case she will need antibiotic intervention and even then, she is not necessarily in the clear . I certainly hope it won't come to that, that this is just a fluke thing with no shell and that she will be okay.

Make sure her nutrition is optimal so she can have the building blocks for proper eggs. Even if you do, she may have a particular glitch in her system that defies your efforts, though I hope not.....

Thanks for the kind words .. This week is very stressful for me every year due to my house fire 4 years i think i was just feeling very lost when i wrote that .. I know there are amazing folks on here that love to help.. I just felt very looked over yesterday.. There where sooo many random ramblings flying thru i was just suprised more folks didnt pipe in...Sorry if I upset or offended anyone ,,, I love this site and all the folks on here...

I have felt around and in her vent and dont feel any eggshell. So i am hoping the other girls ate the shell before i got her out this am .. She is still eating and pooping and her comb is getting a better color so i hope she is ok

I will continue to monitor her ... I am still giving her extra calcium and oatmeal with olive oil...

Also, when you put her in the warm water, she might need to stay for a while. It took my hen almost 15 minutes in the water before she passed a bunch of "stuff" along with the soft egg.

If it has already broken inside her, you don't want to force the issue. It is difficult and we want to do things to try to help, but nature has a way of doing that for us!. Keeping her in the dark is good too. Try the warm water several times a day, if you can.

How exactly are you 'bathing' the hen? i have a golden lace wyandotte, 1 year old who laid all winter the most beautiful brown eggs and now i havent seen any for days. she is eatting well, acting normal, did just molt, very bright comb. but, i am worried because i lost a cochin a few weeks ago and until she died (which seemed like overnight) we realized we hadnt seen her laying for awhile. we dont want to miss something like that again, i have 23 hens and ten 3 week old chicks, plus roos and sometimes (with all the other animals and 86 yr old mom) you can miss something.

pafarmgirl - the molt may still have your hen's laying messed up, but if you are concerned, be sure to monitor her to see if she is straining and acting like she's trying to lay an egg. Check her vent for signs of dried egg yolk/white. I suspect it's molt related, but I do understand your concern and hope it's nothing more than that.

As for "bathing" - you don't really bath her. Just sit her bottom/abdomen in warm water and let her soak a while.
