Hi everyone I have a rooster who has a black spot on his wattle and he was laying down in an odd position. Then I noticed that my other rooster had the same thing on his comb but he wasn't laying down and acting lethargic like my polish. Is this frost bite due to the snow and cold or something else?

Hi,

Yep, probably frostbite. I had a cock whose comb tips fell off (wish I had know about it sooner) due to the cold. The way to prevent this is to rub some regular vaseline on comb and they'll be good to go. The Polish breed is known to do horrible in cold weather... they probably need extra care like a heat lamp.

Thanks I will try that we had a heat lamp in the coop but he likes to constantly protroll the yard. We have been keeping them in the enclosed run for the past few days the snow is pretty deep for them. So he has been around it more.
