Possible Hawk Attack? Anything we can do?

Crows will harass hawks, but don't count on crows to prevent an occasional raptor attack. Just plan to keep your birds in a safe coop and covered run if a hawk is hanging around.

Thank you. I was just wondering if it were true. After the hawk took the silkie, I realized that I don't have any crows around right now. Last year I was loaded with them.

Bantams, especially with feathered heads, and youngsters, are the most likely to be taken by raptors. Almost all my hawk losses have been bantams, or sometimes a young standard bird. Especially cockerels, bold and not so smart!
When one is killed, everyone is on lockdown for a week at least, or longer. Hawks tend to return every two or three days, so be aware, and have your birds safe!
Causing harm or killing a raptor is a federal offence in the USA, with large fines, at least. Not worth it!!!

I agree with you about the federal law. I don't think there is a law against keeping raptors away with kites like posted here. Deterring them I don't think is criminal.

I do have hawks present around my home, but they are not a BIG PROBLEM. My method is security, prevention, and common sense. I would get one of those kites but I read that it seems to keep song birds away as well. Cant have that since I feed them year round.
