So 3 days ago I was moving my 3 week old Dark Cornish chicks from their brooder to pasture in a transport crate. Before I opened the door to let them out, one of the chicks tried to fly and smacked his head and back on the top of the crate pretty hard. Since then he's been unsteady on his feet, falling over, and every so often, flapping his wings and spasming on the ground. He'll walk normal for a minute or so and then fall over and start tweaking-out again.
When it happened and I saw he was having a hard time I figured he'ld be dead by morning. It''s been three days now and he's still alive and kicking. Another weird thing is that I have yet to see the little guy poop. I'm not sure if it's neurological or just severe constipation.
I'm no "tender heart" but it really bothers me to see animals suffer. I have been feeding him h2o twice a day since it happened to keep him hydrated. I really don't want to give up on him if there's a chance he could pull through this. On the other hand, what would be the best way to put the little guy out of his misery if things don't start looking up?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
