I post about a week ago about my Dixie girl’s Preen gland being inflamed which has resolved for the most part.... Yesterday I noticed this (picture) .... I cleaned it well with warm soapy water, it looks a little better today... but i don’t know what to do next.

Any suggestions are welcomed 💗

Thanks in advance!

That looks like a vent prolapse. There may be infection involved due to the bright red outer tissue, so it might be a good idea to try to obtain an oral antibiotic. Ask at pet stores for Fish mox (amoxicillin). It's what many of us use for our chickens.

Here is an article I wrote that describes treatment for vent prolapse. https://www.backyardchickens.com/ar...ng-from-vent-prolapse-oh-my-what-to-do.76124/

Usually, a vent prolapses and won't stay in when you push it back due to an obstruction in the reproductive tract. In other words, your hen may also be egg bound. The article includes instructions on how to treat that, as well.

That is a vent prolapse or cloacal prolapse. Make sure that she is pooping, since egg binding sometimes occurs at the same time, and birds cannot poop with a prolapse. Keep the red prolapse tissue moist with a nontoxic oil or lubricant, so that it does not dry out. Honey is good to use to help decrease swelling or other mild oils. Push it back inside as often as you can, and hold it there for a few minutes. A daily warm soak to her vent can help in keeping her clean. Here is a good article about prolapses:
