I have this hen who had bumblefoot, she was my first ever for treating bumblefoot, but i think i got it all out. Its been a few weeks now, and her wound still hasn’t healed, it was raw because i picked off the scab because it was black. I know i know bad idea, because about a week later (today) her bandage was off for probably a day now! Not good, i check the wound, and what do you know. It sort of faint purple and this weird yellowish color. No new swelling though. Could this maybe be from a little irritation from jumping off a roost or something?? (I don’t know, just really hoping it isn’t infected) If it is infected though, is the only thing i can do bring her to a vet? I find it really hard to keep a toe wrapped up, so if you have any advice please let me know.

Can you post some photos?

It may be infected, hard to know but I would soak the foot in chlorhexidine or betadine, remove any pus that you see, dry well, then pack the wound with triple antibiotic ointment.

It's hard to wrap just a toe so I usually wrap the whole foot. I use vetwrap/sports wrap. Cut it into fairly thin strips. It's hard to describe, but I start at the foot pad, go around the foot, then the toe and back up. Layer your strips, you may find if you wrap the other toes she doesn't bother the wrappings so much. I end the wrapping on the leg at the back. It takes time to get it off so be aware of that. Medical scissors would work well cutting the wrappings off unless you are really steady and she's agreeable, then a small pair of scissors works fine.

I'll try to get a photo today. I didn't see any pus yesterday, hopefully there won't be any today. I can wrap pads fine, I think I use the method you described. But her wound is about halfway up her toe which is quite high up and is difficult to wrap. I will try extending the pad wrap up to the toe and see if it is possible.
