I’m have a 2.5 year old Ameraucano hen and about a month or two ago, it seemed as though one of her eggs may have “exploded” while still inside her, or making its’ way out. I had to pull out pieces of the remaining egg and cleaned her off. She seemed to be just fine after that, but two days ago I noticed her acting a little bit lethargic and noticed her rear end was back to looking dirty and inflamed. That night she roosted by herself in our padded dog housed, which is very unlike her. I also noticed that her poop is very liquidy and quite green in color. Any ideas on what this could be and how I can treat her? Thanks in advance!

Welcome To BYC

Has she laid eggs since you had to remove the egg?

I would feel her abdomen for bloat/swelling or fluid. See that her crop is empty in the morning before she eats/drinks.
She may be having some reproductive issues, hard to know.

Thank you for the speedy reply, and for the welcome to BYC!

I don’t believe she has laid eggs since I had to remove the egg. We have two young hens who seem to be the only producers now, and our other three hens (all about 2.5 years old) have stopped.

I am not sure about her abdomen but I did see that her backside (not sure what it’s called but just below her butt) is quite swollen and molting.

I also noticed she doesn’t have an appetite, I tried to feed her her favorite today (worms) but she was completely uninterested.

I was able to give her some antibiotics (a powder mixed into water) in a syringe today and she guzzled it down, so I’m really hoping that helps her and I will do that again tomorrow.

any other ideas for me? Thank you again

Swelling of the abdomen - does it feel like it has fluid or is it hard?

What antibiotic do you have?
I would try to get her drinking well and offer her some wet feed to see if she'll eat for you.
