Hey y’all, I’m new to BYC but my family has used it forever when they first got chickens 15+ years ago.
I just got some chicks Monday (5 Easter eggers and one black australorp) and one is probably a day or two younger than the rest, so she is significantly smaller than them. I noticed yesterday morning that she wasn’t using both legs to move around, she’s staying under the heat lamp the majority of the time, but she will eat and drinking plenty really well. Pooping normal as well and no pasty butt. I can’t tell if she’s got a fractured or sprained leg, but she will not apply any pressure to it at all and hops around really unsteady. Her wings seem pretty unsteady too but I don’t know if it’s just because she’s so little.
I’ve isolated her from the other chicks because they kept jumping on her and have too much energy for me to feel comfortable keeping her in there with them.
I’ve splinted the affected leg with some vet tape to see if that helps any.
What is y’all’s opinion? Does she have a chance or not? I don’t want her suffering but I also don’t want to give up on her, because other than the leg and hopping around she acts fine and like I said, drinks and eats plenty. I would really love some help!
