I’m pretty sure I now have mycoplasma in my flock from bringing in infected chicks from an NPIP place! This place is called Hilltop farms and many people have had very negative experiences like I have, including a massive amount of chick deaths! One of my chicks from there had some sneezing and clear nasal discharge that went away in about 2 weeks on its own. It was too late by then because they had already had contact with my flock. It’s been about 3 months after my previous flock has had contact with these chicks and now within the last three weeks I have 2 hens with watery, bubbly eyes. No other symptoms right now, and they’re still laying eggs. One of the hens has had the bubbles and watery eyes on and off for all of the 3 weeks and no other symptoms have appeared yet, the other just developed slight swelling and bubbles within the last few days. Does a bubbly eye usually always mean mycoplasma, and does it always cause a massive decrease in laying because my symptomatic hens are acting 100% normal and laying normal eggs. I hatched chicks under a broody about 5 weeks ago and none of them have symptoms either, I would think they’d be showing symptoms but maybe not? I did order some denagard to see if that’ll help. I’m also trying to look into getting a test done, and for now my flock will remain closed until I get a positive or negative result. This is terrible because I practice strict bio security with my flock and only buy from NPIP, but I guess it was all for nothing and now my previously very healthy and beautiful flock may have a chronic disease for the rest of their lives.
Here’s my poor little D’uccles eye, despite how bad it looks she’s acting 100% normal and even laid an egg yesterday.
