Hi everyone!

Yesterday I saw one of my 3 girls had some lumps show up on her leg that weren't there last weekend. Trying to get her to stay still long enough for a photo was a challenge, so it certainly isnt bothering her much (yet?). After some reading on the forum, it looks like we could have scaly leg mites. I just wanted to upload some pics and make sure I'm on the right track?

If so I'm guessing it will be best to treat all 3 just to make sure?

Thank you!

Oh... and they are Lohmann Browns probably just over a year old

Could possibly be the start of it. Their are a few different treatments. I've herd Vet RX smeared on the area, Vaseline mixed with some Ivomectrian smeared on the legs, or using Ivomectrian on the skin. You want to smother the mite, I like to cut off the tip of the affected scales so I can smear it in farther......

Thanks for the help, I had read a bunch on here about treating it, but I wasn't sure if that's what it is because it doesnt look as bad as a lot of the pictures I have seen...

Hi again!

Just wanted to bump this to see if anyone else has any ideas?

I have started treating all 3 with a spray on oil and rubbing it in a little. I have also cleaned the coop thoroughly and dusted and sprayed coop, yard and girls with lice and mite treatments just to be sure. Should I use a thicker oil so it makes more of a coating?

I haven't seen any improvement yet, though I know I wouldn't after only a couple of days. I have noticed that one of the 2 that wasn't showing symptoms like the above pic previously has now got a pink patch of scales on the back of one of her feet...is this related? Or should I be worried about something else?

Thanks all!

Well I managed to take her to the vet, who I was told was 'familiar' with chickens.

She has said it could be scaly leg mites, but it doesn't look quite right, and it may be bacterial? She has given me the number for a specialist to go see.

I would have thought that bacterial would have shown more signs of pain and discolouration?

I will see if I can take her to the specialist on the weekend, but if anyone can shed any light, please help... I'm starting to get really worried for her!

Edit: vet also made mention of it possibly being early bumble foot... I thought that mostly showed on the bottom of their feet?
