Hi everyone,

This is my first time raising chicks! Last friday (4/2), My roommates and I went to pick out 6 chicks, all different breeds around noon. One particular chick we selected was an Easter Egger. She was running laps in the brooder, was very energetic and most chirpy. She was different compared to the others, she loved to peck at other chicks beaks and run constantly around the black plastic brooder for 5-6 hours straight. Not in short circles, just run anywhere and chirp. She stopped to drink water and to eat. However yesterday and today, she was very, very sleepy. The Easter egger slept all day Saturday (4/3) and we sometimes saw her eat. Today (4/4, Happy Easter), she felt even more sleepy. The other chicks would come walk over her and she wouldn't care. She fell over when someone bumped into her and she didn't bother adjusting herself, looking uncomfortable. We picked her up to see her belly and she didn't care. She was the smallest when we got her, but the other chicks are noticeably growing and she looks the same.

The heat lamp is adjusted correctly, clean room temp. water, and no draft. We just gave her electrolyte + probiotic water using a spoon and sugar water today. She sometimes drink it and ate very little but still very sleepy. We have tried giving her scrambled egg but no success. We thought putting her in a box she came in from wilco would help from other chicks trampling and pecking at her but she was alert and chirping and wanted out through the window we created to cuddle with the other chicks.

Any ideas if she'll be okay? What can we do to save her :((

Hmmm, fellow newbie here. I had one chick that I placed in a flower pot inside the brooder, so the other chicks couldn't peck or trample the weakest one. I liked keeping the chicks where they could hear each other.

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Just like chicks don't always make it out of the egg, some don't make it into adulthood. Check the butt of the chick and make sure it's clear. There's something called Pasty Butt, that maybe is affecting her. Search past threads, see if you can get any advice.

Fingers crossed for you!

Some chicks don't thrive, unfortunately. I lost an Easter Egger chick this year. @azygous

Yeah, her butt is clean. We were thinkin she won't make it based on other people's experiences. However she perked up! The sugar water/electrolytes are helping and she has her eyes opened and took a few slow run around haha

The sugar water almost never fails. It's very common for chicks to suffer transit stress, not just from being shipped from the hatchery, but from being brought home from the store, as well. As a matter of habit, I give my new chicks sugar water with a few drops of Poultry Nutri-drench mixed in for the first 24 hours. Any "sleepy" new chick should have sugar water at the first sign of slow-down.

Get some Poultry Nutri-drench. Given for a few days, it will further boost your little EE chick and she should be running with the gang in no time.

Hi- was wondering what ended up happening with your little Easter egger chick. I recently bought 3 chicks and one is an adorable gray Easter egger and I'm noticing the same things and it's killing me worrying about her. Did yours make it?
