I have a small hen who is chronically broody. I am constantly bringing her off the nest. It has literally been all spring and summer of this. I have a closed flock due to an instance of lymphoid leukosis earlier this year, so definitely not able to give her babies.
Issue is, I just went to get her up and into the yard and she seems VERY off. She will barely open her eyes, she literally just stands there and won't move. She acts like she is falling asleep. I checked her out and she is very thin. You can feel all her bones, sharp keel, and not a lot of leg meat. I knew she had been thin, but I was just assuming it's because she has been broody for so long.
Her crop feels like there is stuff in it- it is tight but squishy. It doesn't feel FULL like when the ladies gorge themselves all at once. I am honestly not sure if it is actually empty and just feels this way because she is so thin.
My worry is that she is going to be the 3rd victim of the leukosis. This will be the first bird who was simply exposed (at 6-8 months of age) and not born with it or exposed as a chick. So this would be new.
Is this possibly sour crop? What should I do/how should I treat her? I have her isolated in the sick ward now.
Note: she was totally normal and her perky self this morning.
